The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® 2016 World Championship is back in Germany
Stuttgart hosts the world's top athletes in logger sports
The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship, the international season final of the elite division of logger sports returns to Stuttgart at the Porsche Arena on November 11 and 12. Over 100 athletes from more than 20 nations will battle to crown the 2016 World Champions in the Team and Individual divisions. The event is already sold out.
As in 2013, Stuttgart is once again the host for the World Championship of the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series. In mid-November the world's best athletes in logger sports will crash in the battle for the most important title in the international competition series.
Team competition: thrilling sport, breathtaking action
When Stuttgart's Porsche Arena opens its doors on 11 November it will be "hands on the wood" right away in the team competition for the national squads from North America to New Zealand. In enthralling duels the teams will compete relay-style in a knock-out system, where the fastest team will advance to the next round and the losing team will be out. In the last few years the teams that made it through to the final turned in some impressive times, smashing four wooden blocks to pieces in under a minute. In 2015 the Australian team clinched victory in a heart-stopping, new world record time in the final against the New Zealanders, to claim the Team World Championship title for a second consecutive year. For 2016, an exciting Team competition with the axe and saw awaits the Stuttgart fans, where no mistakes can be made and a hundredth of a second could mark the difference between victory and defeat.
National champions decide the world's best logger sports athlete
After the Team event on Friday, the Individual event will take place on Saturday, November 12, featuring the national champions in the world who will race to decide the world's best athlete in logger sports. At last year's World Championship in Poznan, Poland, the towering New Zealander Jason Wynyard, a legend in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®, captured another World Championship title for his vast trophy collection. This year, a total of eleven other contestants – including the athletes from Australia, the USA, Canada and Germany – will try to snatch the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series trophy away from the now seven-times World Champion.
The battle will be available live from the Porsche Arena, Stuttgart:
Team Competition: Saturday 12 November at 7:00am NZDT
Individual Competition: Sunday 13th November at 7:00am NZDT
